JK Tyre Chennai plant gets ISCC Plus certification

New Delhi: JK Tyre & Industries has become the first tyre manufacturer in India to achieve International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus for its Chennai plant.

Gaining ISCC Plus status involves meeting various criteria such as the traceability of raw materials, compliance with environmental regulations, preservation of the ecosystem, support for labor and human rights, as well as promoting sustainable economic development. The Indian counterpart of the Kolkata-based certification body carried out the comprehensive final review.

"Green manufacturing embodies our commitment to sustainable development. By reducing our carbon footprint and using resources wisely, we have consistently set industry standards over the years. This recognition is an important milestone for JK Tyre and motivates us to continue our dedication to sustainable practices," said Dr. Raghupathi Singhania, Chairman and CEO of JK Tyre.

JK Tyre has set an ambitious goal to become a carbon neutral brand by 2050 and plans to reduce carbon intensity by 50% by 2030. The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has supported the company's commitment to reduce general greenhouse gas emissions.

JK Tyre Factory Chennai has a history of accolades. It was declared a zero-fluid discharge facility in 2021 and was named a “National Energy Leader” in the 21st National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management in 2020. In 2017, the International Manufacturing Research Institute recognized the plant for its sustainability and green manufacturing practices. Additionally, the facility has received the CII “Excellent Energy Efficiency Unit” award for six consecutive years since 2015.

ISCC Plus is a voluntary certification that focuses on bio-based and circular (recycled) raw materials. This certification is granted after a rigorous verification process that confirms compliance with ISCC requirements, including the traceability of certified materials throughout the supply chain, from their origin to the final product.
