Classic Legends to set up plant in UK to manufacture BSA bikes

BSA, the legendary British motorcycle brand, is set to make deeper inroads into the UK with Classic Legends, owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, the brand's new owner, gearing up to start building a new factory in the UK from next financial year.

These motorcycles will be produced in the UK for the domestic market and will also be exported to other developed markets such as the US, Australia and Japan, Anupam Tharaja, co-founder of Classic Legends, told. BSA has been selling the Gold Star motorcycle model in the UK for more than a year through imports from India.

The UK facility will be among several plants Classic Legends plans to build overseas as part of its strategy to become a global motorcycle maker, Thareja said. The company also owns the Yezdi and Jawa motorcycle brands.

"We are looking to set up a plant in the UK right now for BSA. The bikes will be manufactured in the UK for the world," he said. He added that the company is currently finalising the capital expenditure for the plant, which would be raised either by BSA in the UK or its Indian parent.
