Made-In-India Citroen eC3 Scores Zero Stars In Global NCAP Crash Tests

The Citroën eC3 was crash tested by the Global NCAP and the results are disappointing. The electric vehicle received zero stars for adult safety and one star for child safety. This is one of the few tests conducted by Global NCAP under the #safercarsforIndia campaign as Bharat NCAP will be fully operational from this year. Here’s why it scored so low.

The eC3 is equipped with two front airbags, a seat belt load limiter and a seat belt reminder for front passengers. Getting into specifics, the car received a star of 20.86 out of 34 for adults and 10.55 out of 49 points for child safety. It provided good protection for the front passenger's head and neck, while chest protection for the driver and passenger was poor. The driver's knee had marginal protection due to dangerous structures behind the fascia, while knee protection was good for the passenger. Footwell area was also rated as unstable.

Interestingly, the bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of supporting more loads. Side impact testing showed marginal protection overall and adequate protection for the chest and good protection for the abdomen and pelvis. The difference between frontal and side impact resulted in the loss of one star in the results. The side pillar crash test was skipped due to the lack of side airbags. The lack of standard ESC and a seat belt reminder also does not meet GNCAP requirements.
