VinFast Minio Green EV Design Secures Patent in India

Vietnam’s fast-rising electric vehicle brand, VinFast, is steadily paving its way into the Indian automotive space — and their latest move signals big ambitions. After opening its first showrooms in Chennai and Surat, and preparing to launch the VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs, VinFast has now filed for a design patent for its Minio Green EV in India.

While the company has kept launch details under wraps, insiders believe this compact electric hatchback could arrive soon after the VF6 and VF7, targeting India’s growing demand for small, city-friendly EVs.

A Smart Move for a Crowded Market

For an automaker entering a new country, design patents are more than just paperwork — they protect unique styling and signal firm plans for launch. By patenting the Minio Green EV, VinFast clearly wants to position itself as a player in India’s micro-EV segment, competing with models like the MG Comet EV while potentially offering an even more accessible price point.

Compact Size, Clever Design

The Minio Green EV is unapologetically designed for tight urban spaces. With dimensions of 3,090mm length, 1,496mm width, and 1,625mm height, plus a 2,065mm wheelbase, it’s small yet purposeful.

Exterior highlights include:

  • Distinctive semicircular LED headlights
  • Vertically stacked taillamps with a modern flair
  • Flap-type door handles and black ORVMs
  • Compact 13-inch wheels for easy maneuverability
  • A subtle roof spoiler and shark fin antenna for a sporty touch

It’s clear that VinFast has focused on blending functional urban design with just enough style to make the car stand out.

Inside: Minimalism Meets Practicality

Step inside, and the Minio Green takes a simplistic, clutter-free approach — a refreshing change from overcomplicated dashboards.
You get:

  • A two-spoke steering wheel and compact digital driver’s display
  • Four-way adjustable driver’s seat with fabric upholstery
  • A two-speaker sound system for basic entertainment
  • Space for four passengers, making it ideal for daily commutes or short hops around town

Performance Made for City Life

Under the hood, global market versions of the Minio Green use a rear-mounted electric motor producing 27 hp and 65 Nm of torque, paired with a 14.7 kWh battery pack. The result is a range of up to 170 km (NEDC) and a top speed of 80 km/h — numbers that make perfect sense for a compact city EV.

Safety kit includes:

  • Driver-side airbag
  • ABS with EBD
  • Traction control system

What This Could Mean for India

If and when it arrives, the Minio Green EV could transform urban mobility in India. Its dimensions, range, and affordable pricing would appeal to not only environmentally concerned urban commuters, but also fleet operators, and ride-hailing services who want an economical low-maintenance option.

With supportive government EV policies and increasing acceptance of electric microcars, VinFast might find the timing just right.

Conclusion

The Minio Green EV is not only about horsepower or opulence — it's simply smart, sustainable mobility. If VinFast can have local manufacturing or aggressive pricing it could threaten the compact EV space in India. Based on dimensions, features, and suitability for urban driving, I'd say this is one EV to watch in the next 12 months.
