There is a list of few specific and mandatory documents required to buy a new bike. In addition, you need to register your bike with the RTO (Regional Transport Office) and getting bike insurance online or offline. Your automobile dealer also asks for these documents to maintain their database and for various other purposes.

What are the documents Needed to buy a Bike by Automobile Dealership?

Once you have decided to buy a bike according to your preferences and budget, you will approach to the nearest automobile dealership to buy the desired model. When you buy a bike, you will submit the list of documents to them-

1. Identity Proof

The first and foremost thing is to confirm your identity by the submitting ID proof. You will be asked to submit the documents like your driving licence, Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.

2. Address Proof

If you are planning to buy a new two-wheeler, you will need to confirm your residential address. You can submit a utility bill, passport, rental agreement, etc. All these will act as your residential address proof.

3. Nationality Proof

To prove your nationality, your bike dealer may ask you to submit the proof. You can submit documents like Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, Passport, etc.

What are the documents required to buy a bike on EMI or on loan?

You have the option to buy your bike on loan. However, you should be eligible for a two-wheeler loan, based on your age limit, income, etc. While buying your bike on loan, you will need to submit the following documents-

For a Salaried Employee & Self-Employed

To avail bike loan, you must have the following documents:

1. Income Proof

Bike loan is given based on the salary or income you make. Therefore, the bank will ask you for proof of income. Payslips or salary slip, recent Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 years and Form 16 are mandatory documents. However, some banks may ask for a Salary Certificate (including deductions) and the name and designation of the authorised signatory.

2. Bank statements

You are required to submit a bank statement for the last 1 year to clarify your income and deductions (if any).

3. ID and Address Proof

To confirm your identity, it is mandatory to submit ID proof documents like DL, PAN card, Aadhaar card, etc.

To prove your residential address, you must submit a rental agreement, utility bill, passport, etc.

4. Passport size photographs

To process your bike loan application, the bank will ask you for a set of passport-sized photos.

Process of Bike Registration

Once you have bought your riding companion, it has to be registered with the nearest RTO within 7 days from the date of purchase. Since your auto dealer will assist you throughout the registration process, you should know what documents are required to register your bike.

Can you buy a bike without a license in India?

No, it is not necessary to have a driving license (DL) to buy a bike or any other two-wheeler in India. However, to ride a bike on the road, it is necessary to have a valid driving license and bike insurance policy in India.
