New 2027 KTM 690 Rally Breaks Cover With Bold Dakar Styling

KTM has officially unveiled the 2027 KTM 690 Rally in Europe, introducing a long-range, trail-oriented adventure motorcycle based on the Enduro R platform. Positioned as the spiritual successor to the KTM 640 Adventure, this Dakar-inspired machine brings a purpose-built rally tower, 20 litres of fuel capacity, and touring-focused equipment, making it the ultimate middleweight choice for serious off-road expeditions.

Dakar Inspired Design and Rally Tower

The 2027 KTM 690 Rally immediately stands out with its purpose-built rally tower at the front. This tower features an integrated windscreen, a revised LED headlamp, and securely houses the instrument cluster. This design provides riders with excellent wind protection during long-distance riding.

Adding to the touring convenience, KTM has fitted a 12V charging outlet on the right side of the tower and a USB Type C port on the left. The slender bodywork, high front mudguard, and wire spoke wheels emphasize its capability in demanding terrain. It rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels fitted with tubed tyres, a preferred choice for hardcore off-roading. The kerb weight is stated at around 176 kg, keeping it relatively lightweight for its class.

Massive Fuel Capacity for Remote Travel

The most significant engineering upgrade is the revised fuel system. KTM has integrated two front-mounted auxiliary tanks, each holding 3.5 litres, which add 7 litres of extra capacity. Combined with the 13-litre rear tank, the motorcycle carries a massive 20 litres of fuel in total.

Riders can manually select whether the engine draws fuel from the front tanks, the rear tank, or all tanks simultaneously. This clever feature allows riders to manage weight distribution based on the terrain they are tackling.

At its core, the motorcycle retains the powerful 693cc LC4 liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine.

While the 265 mm of ground clearance is excellent for clearing rocks and deep ruts, the resulting 935 mm seat height means this machine is best suited for taller and more experienced riders.
