For Yamaha fans now is the time to rejoice! According to recent reports, Yamaha Motor India Private Limited is planning to introduce the YZF-R15 V3.0 MotoGP Edition to the Indian auto market possibly in August 2018. The R15 3.0 MotoGP edition is now on sale in only some Southeast Asia markets. This MotoGP 3.0 edition will be ready for sale in select markets in India. The Japanese two-wheeler brand is set to launch the YZF-R15 MotoGP edition in India soon.
This new MotoGP edition has received only superficial changes but is mechanically unaltered. There are a few notable additions to this version, such as it will now come with the blue colour seen on the patent Yamaha MotoGP bike, plus it will have the Movistar logo on its head. The new R15 3.0 will also have an ENEOS logo on the fuel pan. What you won’t get to see though are the racing figures of the Yamaha’s MotoGP allstars, Maverick Vinales or Valentino Rossi.
Apart from the surface changes, no new update has been done to the R15 V3.0. The motorcycle to be launched will come with an upside down fork at the front for its international edition. The India-counterpart will be identical to the international R15 V3.0 but it will feature the usual telescopic front suspension as an alternative to the upside-down fork.
Specification wise, the Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 will be powered with a 155cc engine, along with four-stroke single-cylinder mechanism. It will be able to produce 19bhp and a staggering 15 Nm of torque.
Additional features on the bike will include new LED headlamps, more robust slipper clutch and a completely-digital instrument viewfinder. The new MotoGP edition will likely carry a minor premium above the standard model except if Yamaha surprises all of us by launching the motorcycle at an equivalent price.
Currently, the V3.0 in India comes in a choice of two colours: Thunder Grey and Racing Blue. The new motorcycle will be sold additionally to the two paint schemes.
The new model will also have an SOHC liquid cooled engine with Variable Valve Activation (VVA) and Assist and Slipper Clutch. The engine will be tuned to develop 19.3 PS of power and 15Nm of torque. Yamaha claims that the top speed is around 144 km/h.
The standard Yamaha R15 V3.0 in India is priced at Rs 1.26 lakh. The new MotoGP edition, however, is expected to be priced slightly higher.
According to official sources, it is believed that there will be not be any new product launches from Yamaha this year as the Japanese brand is currently focusing all its attention on improving its product range with the CBS and ABS.
More details of the new edition R15 will be revealed closer to its launch which is dated in August 2018. The Japanese brand has outdone itself with this new premium segment motorcycle and is now the talk of the town!
