▼Tata Sierra EV and Mahindra BE6 are not just two electric SUVs fighting over the same buyer’s wallet, they kind of show two very different ways of thinking about what a homegrown EV should be. One leans into roominess, AWD grip and this retro-boxy nostalgia thing. The other goes for coupe styled drama, a fighter jet cockpit kind of feel and a chipset that outmuscles most rivals, on paper at least. Both claim 500km+ sort of real world range, so yeah, it’s not the same story twice. Both sit within eleven thousand rupees of each other at launch. So which one actually deserves your garage in 2026?
The Sierra EV enters with a starting price of ₹18.79 lakh and an optional AWD setup that no rival in this bracket currently offers. The BE6 counters with a claimed ARAI range of 682 km and a 5-star B-NCAP rating already locked in. Let's break both of these down properly.
Pricing
The Sierra EV's base price sits just ₹11,000 below the BE6's entry variant, making this one of the closest price battles in India's EV space right now. At the top end, the gap barely widens, though Mahindra's limited-run special editions like the Batman Edition push well past the regular lineup.

Pricing Verdict: Honestly, at this level of parity, price alone won't decide this one for most buyers. What you're really paying for is the difference in what's under the skin, and that's where the real gap opens up.

Battery, Range & Performance
Both SUVs run dual battery strategies, but only one of them offers all-wheel drive.
Tata Sierra EV
- The Sierra EV is offered with 63 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options.
- The smaller pack delivers an MIDC-claimed range of 565 km, while the larger pack pushes that up to 665 km.
- The 75 kWh Empowered A trim kind of unlocks an optional QWD dual-motor AWD setup, with a rear unit that puts out 234 bhp and 340 Nm paired with a front motor adding 138 bhp/164 Nm.
- Tata says you get a 5.8-second 0-100 kmph sprint in Boost Mode, about half a second quicker than the Harrier EV, even though, you know, the timing sounds a bit optimistic.
- For charging, a 20-80% DC fast charge takes roughly 26 minutes, and a 1.6C rate bumps things up to 263 km of range in just 15 minutes on compatible chargers.
Mahindra BE6
- The BE6 comes with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, both in a strict rear wheel drive setup, so not complicated.
- The 59 kWh version delivers 231 hp while the 79 kWh version pushes out 286 hp, and torque is listed at 380 Nm for both of them, more or less.
- ARAI certifies the 79 kWh pack for up to 682 km maximum range , and the 59 kWh pack is rated at 556 km. Not much wiggle room there.
- Also the BE6 supports 20-80% DC fast charging, it can do that in around 20 minutes when using a 175 kW charger.

Performance Verdict: the BE6 wins on range by a slim 17 km margin, and it also charges a touch faster. But the Sierra EV is the only one of the two offering genuine AWD grip, and that off-road credibility isn't just marketing, it recently became the first production EV to scale the Tal Moreeb sand dune in the UAE.
Design & Cabin
All two look exactly like what they're built to appeal to.
Tata Sierra EV

- The Tata Sierra electric vehicle retains the box-shaped design of the previous Sierra, while the front grille remains closed with integrated LED Daytime Running Lights.
- Also, it has the largest panoramic sunroof in its class at 1,525 mm long.
- There are two 12.3-inch Horizon View infotainment displays, plus a 10.25-inch instrument panel, along with a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system, complete with Dolby Atmos sound technology.
- With a boot space of 622 litres and a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, it is much larger than its competitors.
Mahindra BE6

- The Mahindra BE6 has a futuristic coupe design with sharp LED daytime running lights, a coupe-style roof, a scooped hood, and two spoilers.
- The Mahindra BE6 features an incredibly powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor with 24GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
- The BE6 includes a full 360-degree parked mode surveillance and a panoramic sunroof on high trime levels.
- The Mahindra BE6 has 455 litres of boot space and is designed to have a ground clearance of approximately 207 mm, both less than the Sierra EV.

Conclusion
The Tata Sierra EV and Mahindra BE6 are examples that suggest there is no single way to win the electric SUV race in India any more. The Tata Sierra EV has AWD grip, lots of cabin space and has a lifetime battery warranty which most of its competition cannot match. However, the Mahindra BE6 has been proven on India’s roads, has a confirmed 5-star crash rating and has truly powerful cabin computer chips. There is no definitive winner between these two models. Be realistic with yourself: Do you want the more multi-functional and larger cabin-suv or do you prefer the sportier and already road tested SUV?
