Tata Curvv Petrol, Diesel Launch Today: What To Expect

Tata Motors is gearing up to reveal the prices for the ICE (internal combustion engine) version of its Curvv coupe-SUV in India today, September 2, 2024. This new addition follows the launch of the Curvv EV, which took place nearly a month ago, with the ICE variant sporting a few design tweaks compared to its electric counterpart.

Maintaining the same silhouette and overall proportions as the EV, the ICE Curvv’s most noticeable design change lies in the front fascia. Unlike the EV's sealed-off grille-free look, the ICE model features a contrasting black panel across the upper fascia, accented with body-color inserts, providing a visual connection to Tata's Harrier and Safari models. The central air dam has also been redesigned with a different grate pattern, though other elements like the split headlamps and high-set LED lightbar remain unchanged.

From the side, differences between the ICE and EV versions are subtle, with the main distinctions being the door badging and the design of the alloy wheels. At the rear, changes are minimal, staying true to the design of the Curvv EV.

Inside, the cabin design mirrors that of the Curvv EV, boasting a large free-standing central touchscreen, touch-sensitive air-con controls, a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, and a digital instrument cluster. Top-tier trims will offer an extensive feature list, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster (both by Harman), a 9-speaker JBL audio setup, a voice-activated panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, a powered tailgate with gesture control, a wireless charger, and an in-built air purifier. Additional highlights include ventilated front seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

In terms of safety, the ICE Curvv will come standard with six airbags across all variants, with higher trims offering advanced safety technologies such as tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an electronic parking brake, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The ICE Curvv will be available in eight trims: Smart, Pure+, Pure+ S, Creative, Creative S, Creative+ S, Accomplished S, and Accomplished+ A.

One of the most significant updates for the ICE Curvv is under the hood. The SUV will debut Tata’s new 1.2-litre ‘Hyperion’ turbo-petrol engine with gasoline direct injection, delivering 124 bhp and 225 Nm of torque. Buyers will have the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA) transmission. Additionally, the familiar 1.2-litre ‘Revotron’ turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon, producing 118 bhp and 170 Nm, will also be available with the same transmission options.

On the diesel front, the ICE Curvv will inherit the Nexon’s 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, generating 116 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. This engine marks Tata’s first diesel offering paired with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, alongside the standard 6-speed manual option.

Tata's ICE Curvv is set to enter the competitive compact SUV market, facing off against established rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It will also contend with the new Citroen Basalt, another coupe-SUV in the segment.

Pricing for the ICE Curvv is expected to start around Rs 10 lakh, with the top-end variants likely priced between Rs 21-22 lakh (ex-showroom).
