16,755 e-challans worth INR 9.49 crore issued through e-detection system at toll plazas in Bihar

The Bihar transport department and traffic police have issued over 16,700 e-challans worth Rs 9.49 crore in a week through the e-detection system installed in 13 toll plazas in the state for violations of motor vehicle laws, authorities said. Out of the 16,755 e-tickets issued by the authorities, 9,676 were for vehicles registered in other states, while 7,079 e-tickets were issued for vehicles registered in Bihar during the week from August 7 to 15, they said. “The state transport department in coordination with the traffic police has introduced e-ticketing through the e-detection system, which has been installed at 13 toll plazas in Bihar,” Bihar Traffic Police Additional Director General (ADG) Sudhanshu Kumar told reporters on Tuesday. Vehicle owners in the state who do not have valid insurance, fitness and pollution certificates will now receive e-challan on their mobile phones through the e-detection system.

“From August 7 to 15, the state authorities issued over 16,755 e- challans worth Rs 9.49 crore. The government is in the process of installing e-tickets at all public squares in the state with the help of NIC,” ADG Traffic said.

The e-ticketing system checks vehicles and automatically issues e-tickets in case of missing required documents. Most of the road accident fatalities in the state occur on national highways. To stop accidents, vehicles need to have up-to-date vehicle tax, insurance and fitness permits. The introduction of e-ticketing system will help drivers follow the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act and reduce road accidents.

The Bihar government has recently sanctioned 10,332 posts, including 4,215 highway patrolling, for effective enforcement of traffic rules in the state, he said.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently launched a ‘National Highway Patrol System’ in the state by flagging off a fleet of high-tech vehicles, in a move aimed at effectively controlling accidents in the state for the deployed highway patrol force.” At strategic locations every 50 kms, they play a crucial role in saving the lives of road accident victims, the Assistant Director General said.
