Skoda Auto India launches Kushaq Onyx with AT at INR 13.49 Lakh

New Delhi: Skoda Auto India has implemented one more enhancement in its 5-star safe fleet– introducing the Kushaq Onyx AT priced at INR 13.49 lakh. Onyx was originally launched in the first quarter of 2023 based on customer feedback to provide satisfaction and high value to ŠKODA fans and customers.

Skoda Auto India, based on the latest customer feedback, has upgraded the Kushaq Onyx with an automatic transmission and a host of new features, making it the most affordable automatic car in its segment, the company said in its press release.

“The Onyx model has been a key addition to our range that combines the value of the Active model with features of the higher variants,” said Petr Janeba, brand director, Skoda Auto India. “The new Kushaq Onyx offering comes in response to feedback from our customers, indicating that there is strong demand for an automatic variant at an affordable price; In fact, our value proposition makes this Kushaq the most affordable automatic in its entire segment, providing a hassle-free ownership experience, coming close to. Our clients and constantly listening to them is our effort and an essential part of our growth strategy.

The Onyx AT, like the Onyx before it, slots between the current Active and Ambition models of Skoda's best-selling SUVs. The exteriors have features from the top Ambition model to the Kushaq. One of them is the Skoda Crystalline LED headlights with DRLs. Front fog lights with fixed cornering function further improve visibility and safety. The rear sees the windshield wiper and defroster. With this version, Skoda Auto India continues with the Tecton wheel covers and 'Onyx' badge on the B-pillars, the release added.

Inside, the Onyx AT receives more substantial updates. Topping the list of extras is a hill hold control system and shift paddles. The driver now gets a 2-spoke, multifunction, leather steering wheel with a chrome scroller. The cabin also gets Škoda's Climatronic system with a touch panel and the scruff plates in the front get an ‘Onyx’ inscription in them. Car customers will also receive Onyx-themed fabric cushions and floor mats as standard. The only thing new about this latest product update is the availability of six airbags as standard on the Onyx AT.

The Onyx AT is powered exclusively by Skoda Auto India's 1.0 TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 85 kW (115 HP) of power and 178 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Global New Car Assessment Program tested the Kushaq under its latest and most stringent protocols in October 2022. The SUV scored 29.64 points out of a possible 34 for adult occupant safety and 42 out of a possible 49 points for child safety. The Kushaq was the first car made in India to receive five stars for protection for adults and children.

The Kushaq sits on the MQB-A0-IN platform developed specifically for India by teams in India and the Czech Republic. It has been designed focusing on high localization (95%) and low cost of ownership, starting from INR 0.46 per kilometer. The Kushaq was launched in July 2021 and Skoda's second product on this platform, the Slavia sedan, debuted in March 2022. The company started 2024 by announcing an all-new compact SUV based on this platform. The vehicle will make its debut in 2025.
