Ford EcoSport vs. Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon has successfully managed to woo the potential buyers and give a tough competition to other major cars in its segment. It has definitely emerged as a very strong player in this niche subcompact SUV segment along with its new features, additional kit and a new petrol engine. On the other hand, Ford EcoSport along with its refreshed cabin, rebuilt fascia and new features has also maintained its ground well. Nexon is available with diesel and petrol options and is priced between Rs 5.85 lakh and Rs 9.44 lakh. The EcoSport price falls in the range of Rs. 7.82 lakh and Rs. 10.99 lakh. rn

Specifications

rnNexon is available in diesel and 1.2-litre Revotron petrol fuel options with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. It produces a maximum of 108 Bhp power and 170 Nm torque for the petrol engines and 108 Bhp power and 260 Nm torque for the diesel engine.  It is also available in multiple drive modes with Eco, Sport, and City options. The petrol variants return about 17 km/l mileage and the diesel variants give 21.5 km/l mileage. Ford EcoSport comes in both 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol engine and 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine with 5MT and 6-speed dual-clutch AT. It produces a power of 121.3 Bhp and torque of 150 Nm for the petrol engines and 99 Bhp power and 205 Nm torque for the diesel engines. Transmission choices include an automatic unit and a manual gearbox. The petrol engine claims to return 17 km/l mileage while the diesel engine claims to return 23 km/l mileage.rn

Exterior

rnNexon has the front mesh pattern grille, dual tone color, projectors and DRL, LED tail lamps and a sloping roof, giving a striking appearance to the car. It has got a radical coupe-like styling with large wheels, ceramic-like finish around the fog lamps along with a contrast roof. On the other hand, the other car by Ford has got a more traditional look with the tailgate-mounted spare, headlamps with LED DRL, revised hexagonal grille and tweaked bumpers that make it look mature. rn

Interior

rnThe interior layout of Nexon is very straightforward with added elements like sliding tambour door mechanism to keep small things, 6.5 inch HD touchscreen system, drive mode controller to choose between Eco, Sport, and City drive modes, enough legroom, and a coupe-like roofline. The shape of the rear seat of the car has a bulge at the centre that is very difficult for the middle passenger to sit properly. rnrnFord EcoSport has a completely new interior with higher quality components and looks much better because of the different layouts used. A straightforward design with the instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, an air conditioner unit and vents give the car an upmarket feel along with its standout feature, an 8-inch touchscreen having a faster frame rate and smoother interface than the one in Nexon. It has outplayed the other car with its cabin featuring traction control and airbags.rnrnTata Nexon is definitely going to get a head start being one lakh cheaper than the other car along with fresh design, and amazing ride quality. But it cannot match EcoSport in certain fronts like the driving dynamics, brand value and build quality. Advertisement
