Ducati Introduces New 890cc V2 Engine for Future Bikes

Ducati has unveiled an all-new 890cc V-twin engine, set to power its forthcoming range of middleweight motorcycles. This new V2 engine will replace the current V2 Superquadro motor found in the Panigale V2.

Developed from scratch, this V2 engine from Ducati's Borgo Panigale headquarters marks a significant departure from its predecessor. Engineered for a smoother performance, it will be available in two versions: one delivering 113bhp and 92Nm of torque, and another offering 118bhp and 93.3Nm of torque. The engine has a maximum rev limit of 11,350rpm, with peak power achieved at 10,750rpm.

In a notable shift, Ducati has opted for spring-operated valves instead of the traditional Desmodromic valve timing system. This change ensures greater stability at lower revs and extends the service interval, with valve clearance checks required only every 30,000km.

Weighing in at just 54.5kg, this new engine is the lightest V-twin motor Ducati has ever produced. It is 9.4kg lighter than the Superquadro 955 and 5.9kg lighter than the Testastretta Evoluzione engine. Ducati will officially present this new V2 powerplant at EICMA 2024. While the specific models it will power have yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to feature in the next-generation Multistrada V2, Supersport S, and other upcoming Ducati bikes.
