BMW Motorrad has launched the new R 12 nineT Roadster offering in India priced at Rs. 20.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It belongs to BMW's traditional range of motorcycles and goes up against the Triumph Speed Twin in India.
One of the main highlights of the R 12 nineT is its quintessential retro design with a dash of uniqueness. It sports a boxy, aluminium tank, brushed and clear-coated side panels, dual single-sided pulley style exhausts, and cool looking wheels. The center of attraction is clearly the prominent cylinder heads of its twin-cylinder engine.
The R 12 nineT is powered by a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled engine with two horizontally positioned cylinders whose bore and stroke are 101 mm and 73 mm respectively. It produces 109 HP of power at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm of maximum torque at 6,500 rpm. This motor is attached to a steel frame with tubular bridge that is not only lighter but also gives the bike a cleaner look. The 17-inch wheels are suspended by 45mm forks and a swing arm with a spring strut connected directly to the rear. A pair of 310mm discs and a single 265mm rotor handle braking duties.
On the electronic front, the R 12 nineT comes equipped with cornering ABS, traction control, torque control, a keyless drive system, three driving modes and a tyre pressure monitoring system. If buyers choose to purchase the optional Convenience package, it makes the bike easier to use with Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, and cruise control.
