Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has today announced the launch of the facelifted Tiguan in the domestic market as the five-seater premium SUV makes a comeback after a long hiatus in its BSVI avatar. Unlike the previous model, the 2022 Tiguan is assembled locally at the Volkswagen Group's Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra.
The updated version of the Volkswagen Tiguan has been on sale in international markets for some time and has finally returned to India to power the company's SUV lineup. Just a few months ago, the German company presented the nationally-rich Tiguan midsize SUV as part of the India 2.0 project.
Additionally, the seven-seater Tiguan Allspace is no longer available. The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan arrives to rival the Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross and Hyundai Tucson and gets an assortment of changes inside and out compared from its previous iteration to stretch the lifespan of the existing generation as it continues to be underpinned by the MQB platform.
The new Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces a maximum output of 190 horsepower and 320 Nm of maximum torque. The powertrain is linked to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels via 4Motion technology. By comparison, the old 2.0-liter TDI diesel produced just 143 horsepower.
The updated Tiguan is available in the fully loaded Elegance model priced at Rs. 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory) and deliveries will commence by mid-January 2022. The exterior features a revised front grille, updated front and rear bumpers, triangular fog lights, a wider center air intake, Sharper LED headlights with adaptive function, a set of new 18-inch-inch alloy wheels, redesigned LED taillights, TIGUAN lettering on the bootlid, etc.
The interior has a black theme with metallic accents and features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected technology, flat-base steering wheel with installed controls, 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, control cruise, push-button engine start / stop, soft touch instrument panel, Vienna leather seat upholstery, automatic climate control, 10-inch digital instrument panel, reversing camera, ambient lighting, sunroof panoramic, etc.
In terms of safety, you get six airbags, ABS, ESP, HSA, HDC, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, etc. The color schemes available with the 2022 VW Tiguan are Nightshade Blue, Pure White, Oryx White, Deep Black, Dolphin Gray, Mirror Silver, and Royalty Red.
