Tata Nexon CNG vs. Maruti Brezza CNG: Key Highlights Compared

Tata has officially entered the compact SUV CNG segment with the launch of the Nexon CNG, showcased at the inaugural Bharat Mobility Expo. Priced starting at ₹8.99 lakh, the Nexon CNG competes directly with the Maruti Brezza CNG. Now that we have more details, let’s take a closer look at how these two vehicles compare.

Design Highlights

Both the Nexon CNG and Brezza CNG retain the design elements of their petrol counterparts, with no significant visual changes except for the addition of CNG badges at the rear and a CNG button on the center console.

CNG Specifications

When it comes to performance, the Tata Nexon is the first in its class to feature a turbocharged CNG-compatible petrol engine, producing 98 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. This engine is available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. In contrast, the Maruti Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that delivers 86 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque, paired only with a five-speed manual transmission.

Tank Capacity and Mileage

The Brezza CNG boasts a 55-litre CNG tank, offering a claimed mileage of 25.51 km/kg. Meanwhile, the Nexon CNG has a larger 60-litre tank, though Tata has not disclosed an official mileage figure. In real-world tests, the Nexon CNG achieved an average of 13 km/kg, with 11.6 km/kg in the city and 17.5 km/kg on the highway.

The Nexon CNG also adopts a unique twin-cylinder technology, which allows for a reduced boot space of 328 litres, compared to the 392 litres of the standard Nexon. Interestingly, this boot capacity aligns with that of the non-CNG Brezza. Maruti is currently exploring packaging options but has yet to release any official updates.

Feature List

The Nexon CNG is available across a variety of trims, including the fully-loaded Fearless+S variant, which comes equipped with all the features of the Nexon range. In contrast, the Brezza’s top variant is priced lower, making it ₹2.34 lakh cheaper than the fully loaded Nexon. A direct price competitor would be the Creative+ dual-tone variant, priced at ₹12.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Both vehicles come standard with safety features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), child seat mounting points, seat belt reminders, speed warnings, and three-point seat belts for all passengers.

In summary, both the Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Brezza CNG offer unique advantages in terms of performance, features, and pricing, making them worthy contenders in the compact SUV CNG segment.
