Tata Motors plans to add more CNG-powered cars to its lineup as it is expected to gain a good market share in India in the coming years. The carmaker displayed the Nexon iCNG car at the Bharat Mobility Show and here are the five things to expect from it.
Power-packed
The CNG model is expected to be paired with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 118 PS and 170 Nm of torque. The power output in CNG mode has not yet been disclosed yet. However, this will be the first time such a combination will be offered in the Indian market. Hopefully, it will offer more powerful performance than traditional CNG models combined with a naturally aspirated engine.
Twin-cylinder technology
Like the modern Tata CNG cars, the Nexon iCNG will also come with twin-cylinder technology. It incorporates the use of two small cylinders instead of two large ones, hence saves boot space.
Security features
The carmaker will prioritize safety by using some modern tech. This will include a small switch that automatically shuts off the engine during refueling. Sealants will then be used on the CNG set to reduce gas leaks. Additionally, we can expect Tata to provide thermal crash protection to guard against overheating and similar incidents.
Advanced ECU
Another highly anticipated feature is a single electronic control unit to improve system control. It will have features like automatic fuel switching, direct start in CNG, leak detection system and a modular fuel filter design.
Price hike
In addition to adding new CNG variants, the launch will also include a price increase. This is regardless of whether Tata Motors decides to go for the turbo-petrol range or the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The latter is seen on the Altroz and Punch CNG variants.
