Mercedes-Benz G 400d Launched In India; Prices Start At Rs 2.55 Crore

Mercedes-Benz has relaunched the diesel G-Class in India. The diesel SUV is available in two variants – G 400d AMG Line and Adventure Edition, both of which are priced identically at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom). Customers can book the diesel G-Class starting today, with deliveries starting in the fourth quarter of 2023. Mercedes says existing customers will get preference for deliveries. The booking amount was set at Rs 1.5 lakh. This isn't the first time Mercedes has launched a diesel G-Class in India - the model was introduced here in 350d specification in 2019.

Coming to the variants, while the AMG lineup focuses on sporty exterior design, the Adventure Edition, as the name suggests, complements the SUV to give it a more offroad-ready look. These include roof racks, a removable ladder to access the roof racks, a unique spare wheel cover, the Manufacture logo package (Mercedes personalization programme) and four Manufacture exclusive color options. The model sits on 18-inch silver alloy wheels.

The AMG lineup, meanwhile, gets some unique trims, like big 20-inch alloy wheels, a stainless steel spare tire cover, moonroof, dual infotainment and instrument cluster screens and a Burmester surround sound system. Buyers also get the option of multiple upholstery colors through the Manufacture along with a list of optional features.

Engine-wise, the G 400d uses the proven 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine already offered in models like the GLS in India. The unit develops 326bhp and 700Nm, up from the 282bhp and 600Nm of the old 350D, and is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system with three locking, low-range differentials. Mercedes says the G 400d also gets a unique G mode for off-road driving.

Mercedes also claims impressive off-road driving figures, with the G-Class boasting a ground clearance of 241mm and a fording depth of 700mm. Mercedes says the G-Class has a maximum grade of 45 degrees along with an approach angle of 30.9 degrees and departure angles of 29.9 degrees.

In terms of pricing, the G-Class diesel is in the same ballpark as the full-size Range Rover, from Rs 2.39 crore to Rs 4.17 crore (ex-showroom).
