New Delhi: Hero Xtreme 160R 4V bike has carved out a niche for itself in the Indian motorcycle market. Launched at a competitive price of INR 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom), this bike offers a blend of style and performance that stands out in its segment.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is a 163.2 cc air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with a four-valve configuration. This machine produces 16.6 PS of power and 14.6 Nm of torque and is mated to a smooth 5-speed gearbox, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience.
One immediate impression is the bike's presence on the road, an eye-catcher that turns heads wherever it goes. The seating position and location of the shift paddles contribute to a comfortable ride, especially over long distances.
We would drive 50-60 km every day for two weeks to reach the office from home and vice versa. We found it to be a comfortable ride, although the clutch lever position is a little higher which may create some problems at first, but once you get used to it, that won't bother you. The bike starts to get some vibrations in the front at higher revs.
The suspension of the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V features KYB USD forks up front and an adjustable mono-shock at the rear with a seven-step preload, not only for aesthetics but also for a quieter, less vibrational ride. The company claims that the bike's top speed is 115 kilometers per hour, but our tests revealed that it can reach 116 kilometers per hour, although it takes some effort.
Cruising at speeds between 75 and 90 km/h is where the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V effortlessly shines. Beyond 90km/h, you'll notice the revs increasing, but the bike maintains stability with little vibration in your palm. It provides a smooth experience even when cornering due to the weight distribution and also provides complete control of the bike at high speeds.
Hero MotoCorp claims that this is the fastest bike in the 160cc segment and our tests back up this claim. When we tried to evaluate the bike's acceleration time, it took 5.24 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h with a passenger.
During our winter trips, hazard indicators were the prominent feature, improving safety in foggy conditions. This practical addition sets the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V apart from its class. The hazard indicator was something people did in the aftermarket, but Hero did a good job of including this feature on the bike.
