Ather 450 Electric Scooter I Check out Price, Mileage, Images, Specs

Ather Energy recently launched its Ather 450 electric scooter in India. At the launch event, the Bengaluru-based startup announced the upfront pricing for the e-scooter along with two subscription plans namely Plus and Pro. Ather is working on an exchange offer where you can trade-in your old petrol-powered scooter and buy a new Ather 450 electric scooter for a discounted price. Ather has discontinued the 340 and 450 electric scooters and only the Ather 450X and 450 Plus are on sale. Currently, you can buy the Ather 450 outright for Rs 1.59 lakh (Ather 450X) and Rs 1.49 lakh (Ather 450 Plus). Ather electric scooters are available in Bengaluru and Chennai and the scooter maker plans to launch its products in eight major cities by the end of this year. Soon you will also be able to buy pre-owned Ather electric scooters as well.

Ather 450 Specifications


The Ather 450 is powered by a 6kW electric motor. Compared to the previous Ather 450’s 2.5Nm, the updated motor delivers 26Nm of peak torque.It gets three riding modes plus a reverse mode. The riding modes are Eco, Ride, and Sport with an additional Warp mode exclusive for the 450X variant. In Warp mode, the electric scooter can accelerate from 0-40kmph in a claimed 3.3 seconds and 0-60kmph in just 6.5 seconds. The top speed of the 450X is 80kmph (claimed).

The 450X now gets a larger 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack (compared to the previous 2.7kWh). It now offers a true range of 85km. The battery can be charged up to 100 percent in 5 hours 45 minutes using a normal 5 amp socket. With improved fast charging, the scooter offers 1.5km per minute of charging.

The updated 450X electric scooter is now 11kg lighter than the previous Ather 450 electric scooters. Suspension components comprise telescopic forks and a mono-shock with a cast alloy swingarm. Ather is offering fatter TVS Remora tyres as options to the standard MRF low-rolling-resistance one. Braking is via disc brakes at both ends with CBS.

You can buy two variants of the Ather electric scooter. The 450 Plus is priced at Rs 1.49 lakh while the 450X costs Rs 1.59 lakh (both Bengaluru prices including GST and FAME II subsidies and excluding state subsidy, insurance, road tax and registration fees). The prices include a 3-year battery warranty and a free Ather Dot home charger. Ather offers subscription packs for unlimited public charging, connected features, and OTA updates. Compared to the 450 Plus, the 450X gets a more powerful motor Warp mode, better range, and faster charging.

Another alte
ative to buying the Ather 450 outright is the battery subscription scheme that requires you to pay Rs 99,000 for the scooter and a monthly subscription of Rs 1,999 for the 450X and Rs 1,699 for the 450 Plus. This subscription ensures a free battery warranty where if the battery’s charging capacity falls below 80 percent, the battery is replaced free of charge. It also includes unlimited fast charging on the Ather Grid, connected services, and OTA updates.

The Ather 450X carries forward the Ather 450’s design but introduces new grey and green colours in addition to white. The electric scooter gets high-quality body panels with excellent paint finish. In terms of quality and fit and finish levels, the Ather 450X is easily among the best two-wheelers out there.

The Ather 450 is hands down the most tech-laden scooter sold in India. It gets all-LED lighting and even an LED strip for under seat storage lighting. Other features include a side stand sensor, auto indicator off, and guide-me-home lights. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen colour-TFT instrument console with the operating system being upgraded to Android from the previous Linux-based OS. It gets an inbuilt 4G sim for onboard navigation via Google Maps, connected mobile apps, and over the air updates. It supports a smartphone app that offers live location, vehicle tracking, theft detection, push navigation, music controls, tyre pressure monitoring system, and much more.

Ather 450X Competitors


The Ather 450X competes with other premium connected electric scooters such as the Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube but is significantly more expensive than both. In terms of pricing, the Ather 450X competes with the Jawa 42, Bajaj Dominar 250, Royal Enfield Classic 350, KTM RC 125, and Suzuki Gixxer 250.
