Lenas Design, a small engineering firm based in Silverstone, England, has resto-modded the 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V, but unlike other such projects, this one has replaced the old petrol powertrain with state-of-the-art electric propulsion.

Lunaz has developed a 120 kWh battery pack that is aimed at converting classic British cars like the Phantom V, Rolls-Royce Cloud, and Jaguar XK120 into fully EVs. The Phantom V is their latest project and with this battery pack installed, makes380 hp and 700 Nm. That's a bit more than the 185 hp the original 6.25-liter V8 put out. The Lunaz Phantom V also has a useful range of 480 km.

But this small, specialized fit does more than just swap engines. Much attention is paid to detail when converting each of these cars to fully electric cars. Each vehicle undergoes a thorough inspection, after which each angle is weighed to understand the original weight distribution. This information is then used to make decisions about the powertrain and suspension frame preparation and packing. After removing the old powertrain, the vehicle is 3D scanned for designers to work on CAD models. With the new powertrain installed, the revamped vehicle undergoes a whole series of tests.

Lunaz also combines these car's old-world coach-building techniques for this vehicle with all the New Age technologies needed to drive an EV. Bare metal is removed from the vehicle, and smaller body imperfections are manually removed before the finishing process begins. Also, inside, mode
conveniences such as satellite navigation, touch screen, and Wi-Fi are integrated. Battery chargers and powertrain DC inverters were also integrated into the original shape as well. The dials and fuel filler cap are modified to suit this powertrain, while the braking, suspension, steering, and electronics systems are mode
ized to handle the increased power output. Finally, there is a new system of acceleration, air conditioning, and heating.

Lunaz's team includes former employees of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, VW, Cosworth, and McLaren. Only 30 Rolls-Royce Phantom Vs will be up for grabs, priced from GBP 500,000.
