Kia's 1st electric car in India, Kia EV6 launch on 2nd June,2022

After having opened bookings for its first electric vehicle in India, Kia will launch the Kia EV6 in the country on June 2. The EV6 will make its way here via CBU's (fully built) road, to rival the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is rather a cousin to it and others like the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The EV6 electric crossover is likely to be made available only in the GT Line variant in India, according to a brochure that leaked online some time ago, though we'll know more about that next week.

The Kia EV6 will be available in two drive options: rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). Both are likely to be powered by a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. While the single-engine rear-wheel drive version produces 225 hp and 350 Nm, the dual-motor all-wheel drive version generates 321 hp and 605 Nm of torque.

The Kia EV6 RWD claims a range of 528 km (WLTP) on a single charge and 425 km on the AWD version. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h for all-wheel drive is programmed at 3.5 seconds, while for rear-wheel drive it is just over five seconds. Battery charging time is 18 minutes from 0 to 80 percent with a 350kW fast charger and 73 minutes from 0 to 80 percent with a 50kW fast charger. It should be noted that the fast chargers available in India have a capacity of 50 kW. It will be interesting to see if Kia offers larger capacity chargers at its dealerships.

Kia's electric vehicle is based on the South Korean manufacturer's Global Electric Standard Platform (E-GMP). It also boasts Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 5 with semi-autonomous capabilities such as Highway Driving Assistance System 2 (HDA2). The system includes forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, and more. It will have eight standard airbags and hill-start assist, among a long list of safety features.

Inside, the EV6 boasts a head-up display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and an equally large digital instrument cluster. It gets 10-way power adjustment for the seats and a 14-speaker audio system. Features and creature comforts will depend on the variant chosen.
