Electric Car Sales April 2022 – Tata Nexon EV to Tigor EV

It's no secret that Tata Motors dominates the passenger electric car market, as seen by the success of the Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV models. Late last year, the Tigor EV received a substantial update, switching to Ziptron technology for enhanced driving range, while the offering of Tata Nexon EV was just expanded.

Tata Nexon EV Max was launched with a starting price of Rs. 17.74 lakh and two models with the optional 7.2 kW charger, capitalizing on the popularity of the electric SUV. The Tata Nexon EV Max sports a 40.5 kWh Li-ion battery pack and a claimed driving range of 437 km on a single charge, as well as a slew of innovative capabilities.


Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV combined sales reached 1,802 units in April 2022, up from just 429 units in the same month last year, a stunning 320 percent increase year over year. The MG ZS EV had a significant redesign a few months ago, with visual upgrades, new features, and a 461-kilometer driving range on a single charge.

It sold 245 units domestically last month, up from 148 units in the same time of 2021, a 65.5 percent increase year over year. The Hyundai Kona Electric came in third place with 23 vehicles sold compared to 10 last year, a 130 percent increase year over year.


The upgraded version of the five-seater electric SUV will be released later this year, competing with the MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon EV Max. The BYD e6 finished fourth, ahead of the BMW iX and Mahindra eVerito, with the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi's etron, Porsche Taycan, and Jaguar I-Lace rounding out the top five.

Manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, and Kia will launch new electric vehicles in the next years, bringing a lot of activity to the electric car segment.
