MG Motor India will present another update to Hector's lineup. A 5-seater SUV from Hector will soon come with a CVT gearbox. MG Hector's Petrol CVT price will be announced on February 11, 2021. The model will be based on the recently facelifted Hector that debuted last month in India.
MG Hector Petrol CVT: what's new?
MG Motor India currently sells Hector petrol with a 6-speed manual gearbox or DCT automatic transmission. The company will offer the CVT gearbox option on the MG Hector, which according to some dealers we have spoken to will likely be sold alongside the DCT variant. For those unaware, the Hector-based Wuling Almaz SUV sold in Indonesia is now available with a CVT gearbox.
MG Hector Petrol CVT: engine and other details
MG Hector's petrol CVT will come with the same 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and will sit alongside the other two variants that come with the option of manual and automatic DCT. Hector's two best options, Super and Sharp, will be available with the CVT gearbox. According to dealer sources, MG Motor India will market the CVT-equipped petrol as a city-friendly SUV, while DCT will target customers looking for more highway driving where the gearbox can be bumpy in lower city speeds.
The CVT gearbox is also expected to save more fuel and be smoother than DCT. At its launch, the Hector petrol CVT will be the first vehicle in its class to offer two automatic gearboxes in the same market. It is expected to reveal more details in the coming days.
