Top 5 Hybrid Cars In India – Honda City e:HEV To Toyota Camry

In recent years, we have seen the electrification of the global automotive industry at a rapid pace for all the good reasons. Emissions from the tail of vehicles are a major contributor to air pollution, and low-emission electrified vehicles are great options for environmentally aware buyers. However, off late electric vehicles have dominated the media recently, and we believe that hybrid cars also need some time to be in spotlight.

Electrification is the way forward for the automotive industry, and here we have compiled a list of top five hybrid/plug-in hybrid cars on sale in Indian car market.

  1. Honda City e: HEV

Honda City is the first mass-market "strong" hybrid car in India. It comes with the same design as the regular Honda city, but it gets some added equipment and improved safety features (Honda Sensing). It comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, coupled with two electric motors - a starter generator and a propulsion motor on the front axle .It produces 126 hp and 253 Nm combined power and torque respectively.

  1. Toyota Camry

Jumping up a few segments, we have another hybrid car ie. Toyota Camry, which offers great comfort, especially in the rear seats. Its hybrid powertrain comes with 2.5-liter petrol powered engine paired with a CVT, and a nickel-metal hydride battery that drives an electric motor on the front axle. The car has a combined maximum power of 218 PS.

  1. BMW 745 Le

BMW 7 Series gets a plug-in hybrid option in the country, on the 745 Le variant. The Hybrid Powertrain uses a 3.0-liter petrol powered engine, coupled with a 8-speed automatic gear box, along with an eDrive engine. It boasts a combined output of 394 PS and 600 Nm, and the battery can be charged via an external charger to further reduce the emissions of the tailpipe.

  1. Lexus NX 350h

SUVs can also be environmentally friendly, as the Lexus NX Series proves. Lexus NX 350h is a 5-seater luxurious SUV, powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine, coupled with a CVT, along with two electric motors, one on each axle. The total power output of this motor is 243 hp.

  1. Volvo XC90 Recharge

For buyers who wish to buy larger (7-seater) SUV with a plenty of luxury, but still want to keep their emissions low, for them, there is the Volvo XC90 Recharge. It is powered by a 2.0-liter revved- up and turbocharged petrol engine.
