Tata Safari and Harrier Honored with Global NCAP Safer Choice Award

Global NCAP has bestowed Tata Motors with the prestigious Safer Choice Award for their Tata Safari and Harrier models. These vehicles secured a five-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia initiative. Tata Motors also ensured these models complied with Global NCAP's safety performance criteria, incorporating advanced systems like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and speed assistance technologies.

Significance of the Award

The Safer Choice Award represents Global NCAP’s highest recognition for safety excellence in the Indian car market. Tata Motors has met the updated 2024 criteria, which necessitate achieving five-star ratings in both adult and child occupant protection, as well as specific performance standards for safety technologies.

To qualify for the Safer Choice Award, a vehicle must meet several stringent requirements, including obtaining a five-star Global NCAP rating for both adult and child occupant protection. Additionally, the vehicle must be equipped with a speed assistance system and achieve a perfect score in Global NCAP’s test criteria. The car must also offer AEB for both car-to-car and vulnerable road users, meet UN regulatory performance standards, and have BSD available as a stand-alone option that meets Global NCAP’s criteria.

David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, stated, “Tata Motors’ ongoing commitment to vehicle safety is commendable, and we are pleased to present the first of our new Safer Choice Awards to them for the Safari and Harrier.”

“Encouraging automakers to attain higher levels of protection for occupants and vulnerable road users is central to Global NCAP’s safety mission. We appreciate Tata Motors' continued support and leadership in their road safety efforts.”

He added, “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to safety and innovation, ensuring our customers experience the highest standards of safety alongside comfort and performance. We are grateful to the entire Global NCAP team for their support as we continue to produce safer cars for India.”

Dedication to Road Safety

According to Global NCAP, these efforts set a high standard in the Indian automotive industry and emphasize the importance of vehicle safety for consumers.

Launched in 2018, the Global NCAP Safer Choice Award motivates automakers to elevate safety standards. With Tata Motors receiving this award, the company is recognized for its significant efforts to ensure top-tier safety in their vehicles sold in India. The inclusion of advanced safety systems such as AEB, BSD, and speed assistance in the Tata Safari and Harrier represents a significant advancement in automotive safety technology.
