BMW India is planning to launch the eighth-generation BMW 5 Series on July 24 and will bring in two Mini models as well. The new generation Cooper S and the Countryman Electric will also be launched on the same day.
The latest version of the Mini Cooper made its global debut in September last year. The Cooper C and Cooper S models are powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 154 PS and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 201 PS respectively. The purely electric version of the Cooper comes in 'Cooper E' and 'Cooper SE' models with 40.7 kWh and 54.2 kWh battery packs respectively.
The Mini Countryman Electric, on the other hand, shares its underpinnings with the BMW iX1. Globally, the electric SUV is offered in two versions: E and SE ALL4. Both models come with a 64.7 kWh battery, although the base model has a single electric motor and produces 204 HP and 250 Nm of torque. The SE model is more powerful with two electric motors producing 313 HP and 493 Nm of torque. Conversely, the E trim can cover 461km on a single charge (WLTP cycle), while the SE model offers a range of up to 433 km.
BMW India will launch the updated Mini models next month and bookings have already begun. Interestingly, the Countryman Electric will hit Indian shores for the first time and will be imported as a CBU unit.
