Mercedes-Benz unveils the G 580 EV with 4 electric motors and tank turn capability.

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the highly anticipated all-electric version of its iconic G-Class, introducing the G580 with EQ Technology. This significant release marks a departure from the current EQ nomenclature system, hinting at a new direction for future EV models from the luxury automaker. While the G580 EV retains the timeless boxy design and rugged proportions of its predecessor, it introduces several groundbreaking advancements under the hood and within its tech-infused interior.

Design Evolution:

The Mercedes Benz G580 EV maintains the unmistakable silhouette and rugged aesthetic that have defined the G-Class for decades. However, Mercedes-Benz has implemented subtle yet impactful design updates to differentiate the electric model. Notable changes include body-colored headlamp surrounds, a revised grille featuring a four-slat design, and optional illuminated EQ-style elements that add a touch of modernity to the classic exterior.

Aerodynamic Enhancements:

In line with the transition to electric power, the EQ Technology incorporates aerodynamic enhancements to optimize efficiency and performance. These include new cladding on the A-pillar to improve airflow and reduce drag, as well as rear wheel arches with integrated air curtains for enhanced aerodynamics. Additionally, a roof-mounted spoiler contributes to improved stability and aerodynamic balance.

Luxurious Interior:

Stepping inside the Mercedes Benz G580 reveals a cabin that seamlessly blends luxury with cutting-edge technology. The interior remains true to the G-Class legacy, featuring premium materials, exquisite craftsmanship, and a host of modern amenities. Drivers and passengers are greeted by the familiar twin 12.3-inch digital displays atop the dashboard, offering intuitive control over various vehicle functions and entertainment features.

Tech Innovations:

Mercedes-Benz has not only electrified the powertrain but also elevated the technological prowess of the G580. The electric SUV introduces an updated voice assistant with enhanced functionality, eliminating the need for specific commands and offering around 20 unique voice commands tailored to the G-Class experience. Optional upgrades include a rear-seat entertainment package with twin 11.6-inch touchscreens and a state-of-the-art Burmester 3D sound system for an immersive audio experience.

Performance and Range:

Underneath its rugged exterior, the G580 with EQ Technology houses a powerful quad-motor all-wheel-drive electric drivetrain. This setup delivers an impressive output of 579 horsepower and a massive 1,164 Nm of torque, ensuring exhilarating acceleration and off-road capabilities. The SUV is equipped with a robust 116 kWh under-floor battery pack, providing an estimated range of up to 473 kilometers on a single charge. Fast-charging capabilities enable efficient recharging, with support for DC fast charging up to 200 kW.0

Off-Road Mastery:

Despite its transition to electric power, the G580 EV remains true to its off-road heritage. Advanced features such as torque vectoring, low-range gearing, and locking differentials ensure exceptional performance in challenging terrain. The G-Turn function allows the SUV to execute 360-degree tank turns, showcasing its agility and maneuverability off-road. Additionally, the G580 boasts impressive approach and departure angles, water wading capabilities, and innovative G-Steering technology for enhanced control and stability.

The all-electric G-Class is set to make its global debut later this year, with Mercedes-Benz confirming its forthcoming availability in the Indian market.
