- Current 1.2-litre petrol engine powers Baleno, Swift, Wagon R, Ignis and Dzire
- It is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks.
Several car manufacturers have commenced rolling out updated powertrains that are BS6 2 compliant. Now, according to our sources, Maruti Suzuki will soon be upgrading its 1.2-litre petrol engine to be compliant with BS6 Phase 2 and RDE norms.
At the moment, the 1.2-liter petrol engine powers the Maruti Swift, Baleno, Wagon R, Dzire, and Ignis. With the exception of the Ignis, all models are equipped with idle start/stop technology as standard on all variants. The same mill is also offered as a CNG variant with the Swift, Baleno and Dzire with a five-speed manual transmission.
The carmaker also has two more petrol engines - 1.0L and 1.5L - which we expect to be upgraded to BS6-2 standards as well. So far, automakers like Hyundai, Tata and Renault have upgraded their engines to comply with BS6-2 norms.
Also, Maruti Suzuki has commenced bookings for the Jimny and Fronx SUVs. Pricing for Fronx is likely to be announced next month, while Jimny is expected to launch in June 2023.
