Mahindra Thar 4X2 introduced at Rs 9.99 lakh. Here's what it offers

Mahindra Thar RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) was officially launched in the Indian auto market on Monday with a starting price of 9.99 lakhs, going up to ₹13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are introductory and only valid for the first 10,000 bookings. The Four-Wheel Drive or 4WD version of the Mahindra Thar has also been upgraded for its capabilities.

The Mahindra Thar RWD is offered with a D117 CRDe engine producing 117PS and 300Nm of torque with manual transmission. There is also mStallion 150 TGDi petrol engine producing 150PS and 320Nm of torque and is mated to an automatic transmission. Mahindra Thar RWD variants are available in two new color options: Blazing Bronze and Everest White.

Mahindra says that at a lower price, the Thar RWD is now more accessible to a wide range of customers who may not need to use the car's all-wheel drive capabilities. "By introducing the new RWD variants, we've made them more accessible for those who wanted to live the 'thar life,' while our additions to the 4WD variants are designed to satisfy true off-road drivers. We're confident that the new Thar collection It will spark even more enthusiasm to explore the impossible and add new enthusiasts to the Thar way of life."

The Thar 4WD now comes with an advanced electronic brake locking differential. But the price difference between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive is likely to make the newer variants more popular. For example, the cheapest Thar Diesel AX(O) 4X2 MT at Rs 9.99 lakh  is cheaper than the Thar Diesel AC(O) 4X4 MT at Rs 4.15 lakh. Similarly, Thar Petrol LX 4X2 AT at Rs 13.49 lakh is about Rs 2.33 lakh more affordable than Thar LX 4X4 AT.
