Mahindra and Tata Set New Records with 674 and 333 Patent Approvals Respectively in FY24

In the previous fiscal year, two prominent players in the Indian automotive industry, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors, achieved notable milestones in patent approvals, unveiling a diverse range of product innovations and process enhancements. Mahindra & Mahindra's impressive feat of securing 674 approvals, a record-breaking achievement for the company, was complemented by Tata Motors' attainment of 333 patents during the 2023-24 fiscal period.

Underlining the critical importance of readiness for future challenges, Mahindra & Mahindra underscored its substantial investments in research and development, aiming to sustain its technological edge and cultivate a robust talent pool. Rajesh Jejurikar, serving as the Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra's Auto and Farm Sectors, articulated this strategic commitment to innovation.

The cumulative impact of Mahindra & Mahindra's endeavors in patent acquisition spans across various geographies, with a total of 1,185 patents accumulated to date. As of March 31, 2024, the company possesses 193 pending patent applications, having collectively filed 2,212 applications since inception. These patents represent a diverse array of functionalities, including advancements in powertrain technology for both internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric vehicles (EV), vehicle mechanical systems, cutting-edge electronics, manufacturing processes, innovative electric tractors, and sophisticated engineering solutions.

Parallelly, Tata Motors reached a significant milestone by securing its highest-ever grant of 333 patents during the previous fiscal year, contributing to its extensive portfolio exceeding 850 granted patents. Furthermore, Tata Motors demonstrated its commitment to innovation by filing 222 patents and 117 design applications in FY24, marking unprecedented levels of intellectual property generation in the company's history.

The patent filings of both Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors encompass a broad spectrum of groundbreaking innovations, addressing pivotal automotive industry trends such as connectivity, electrification, sustainability, and safety (CESS). These patents encompass critical vehicle systems, including powertrain optimization, suspension enhancements, brake innovations, and emission control advancements, thereby solidifying both companies' positions as pioneers in automotive technology.
