Kia Sonet SUV unveiled in India: Price, Features Specifications

One of the most eagerly anticipated vehicles of this year, the Kia Sonet, made its global debut today. Sonet is Kia Motors India's third offering in the country after Seltos and Ca
ival. The youngest member of the compact SUV class, the Kia Sonet will go up against the likes of  Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Tata Nexon. Sonet bookings will open in India soon. The automaker claims that prototypes of the Kia Sonet have been tested for more than 1 lakh km on the Indian roads.

We first saw the Kia Sonet in concept form at the Auto Expo 2020. While we were very impressed with the Sonet concept,  it must be added here that the production-ready Sonet looks just as amazing, if not more. That the 'Made-in-India' Kia Sonet will be exported to other countries is a piece of great news.

When it comes to Kia Sonet exterior styling, the new compact SUV's front is quite imposing. The signature "tiger nose" front grille with a 3D 'stepwell' geometric mesh creates a typical Kia appearance. There are 'jewel-like' LED headlights with 'heartbeat' LED DRLs. The rear contains "heartbeat" LED taillights, connected by an LED light bar. Other features include black ORVMs, silver roof rails, and 16-inch crystal-cut alloy wheels. The new Sonet has eight monotone and three dual-tone exterior color options.

Like the Kia Seltos and Kia Caival, the new Kia Sonet is loaded to the max when it comes to cabin features. Most important of these is the infotainment system with a best-in-class 10.25 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster provides important information related to tu-by-tu navigation, Highline tyre pressure monitoring, and drive/traction mode selection. The compact SUV also features steering wheel-mounted controls, automatic climate control, seven-speaker Bose premium sound with subwoofer, LED lighting, wireless smartphone charger, metal pedals, keyless entry and push-button start/stop, rear AC vents, smart pure air purifier, and sunroof. There are also six airbags. Not forgetting that there is also UVO technology with up to 57 functions connected.

In terms of powertrain options, the Kia Sonet has three in total Smartstream 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-GDI petrol, and 1.5-liter diesel. Transmission options include 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed AT, and 7-speed DCT. We have already seen the iMT in the Hyundai Venue.

Kia Sonet will launch in India in September 2020. Kia Sonet price in India is expected to be in the Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
