Delhi NCR is expected to experience significant traffic congestion today as Kanwar pilgrims embark on their annual Hajj journey. In response, both Delhi Police and Noida Police have issued traffic advisories, advising commuters to avoid major roads and highways to prevent delays and traffic jams. The Hajj period, starting today and lasting until August 2, will see approximately 15,000 to 20,000 pilgrims on the roads, with traffic warnings in effect for the next two weeks.
Authorities have urged travelers to plan their routes ahead of time to avoid delays and overcrowding. Delhi Highway Police have implemented detailed plans to manage the movement of Kanwar devotees and other road users, aiming to reduce disruptions for both the general public and pilgrims.
In addition, police have instructed Kanwar devotees and regular commuters to adhere to traffic regulations, noting that checkpoints have been established to monitor traffic violations. Surveillance through photos and videos will be used to enforce the rules.
The traffic advisory from Delhi Police highlights restrictions on heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, on major highways such as NH-24, GT Road, and Wazirabad Road. City buses will be permitted, with diversions in place for buses coming from Shahdara, Sonia Vihar, and other areas. Specific routes will be redirected to manage traffic flow.
Delhi Police also reported that traffic congestion will be significant at several key locations, including Najafgarh Verni, Rohtak Road, and Mathura Road. Due to the redirection of traffic for Apsara and Maharajpur borders by UP Police, NH-24 is expected to face additional congestion.
Noida Police have advised travelers to check their routes carefully, as pilgrims will be traveling through various local roads. The suggested routes include pathways from Chila to DND, Pash Vihar to Kalindi Kunj, and several others, with potential traffic impacts in those areas.
