New car launches in India in October 2021

With the festive season just around the corner,Automakers are lining up car launches in India across the spectrum. We have some confirmed launches, while others are expected to arrive by the end of October 2021.

Tata Punch

Tata Motors will launch the new Tata Punch micro-SUV in the country in the third week of this month, which is likely to take place on October 20, 2021. The model will be offered in four variants across seven color options.

Under the hood, the Tata Punch will be powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85 hp and a torque of 113 Nm. This engine will be paired with either a five-speed manual or an AMT motor.

Locally assembled Mercedes-Benz S-Class

In September 2020, Mercedes-Benz pulled the covers for the seventh-generation S-Class. The model was introduced in India earlier this year and arrived via CBU, with prices starting at Rs 2.17 crore (ex-showroom, all India). Now, the company will launch the CKD version of the model on October 7, 2021.

Under the hood, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to be powered by the same 3.0-liter petrol and diesel engines as the S450 and S400d. The former produces 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 326 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Both engines send power to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic.

MG Astor

MG unveiled the Astor midsize SUV in the country last month. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos competition will launch in the country later this week. The model will be available with Part 1 features such as Level 2 autonomous technology and an AI personal assistant.

Powertrain options on the new MG Astor will include a 1.5-liter NA petrol engine and a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine with 108 hp and 144 Nm of torque and 138 hp and 220 Nm, respectively. The 1.3-liter version is offered exclusively with a six-speed automatic unit, while the 1.5-liter variant has a six-speed manual transmission or CVT unit.

Volkswagen Polo Matt Edition

Volkswagen introduced the Polo Matt Edition in March of this year. The model, featured as the name suggests, has a matte grey paint job and various other visual enhancements. The luxury hatchback gets a glossy black finish on parts like the spoiler, door handles, and ORVMs. We expect no changes to the interior of the car.

The Volkswagen Polo Matt Edition will be powered by the same 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 109 hp and 175 Nm of torque. This motor is likely to be paired only to a six-speed manual unit.

Volvo XC60 Facelift

Volvo has teased the XC60's facelift for the Indian market, hinting that the launch of the updated model maybe around the corner. The model will get a revised exterior design and some additional interior features.

The 2.0-liter diesel engine in the current XC60 is expected to be replaced by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol mill. The final details of power output and transmission are likely to be revealed closer to the launch.
