Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the A-Class sedan and is expected to go on sale in inte
ational markets by the end of this year. The automaker has also revealed an LWB version of the new sedan car, which will only be sold in the Chinese market.
Although Mercedes has confirmed that the A-Class sedan will also be coming to India, it is not yet known if it will be in the standard version or the LWB version (which is currently exclusive to China). We expect it to be the latter given the popularity of the E-Class LWB in the country.
In the inte
ational market, the A-Class sedan cars available with two engine options. The A200 variant is powered by a 1330 cc turbocharged petrol engine that generates 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. On the other hand, the A 180 d gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine generating 116 hp and 260 Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Since the A-Class sedan will be imported from the country's CBU, we expect the Indian spec vehicle to run the same range of petrol and diesel engines.
Speaking of pricing, the German carmaker has already confirmed that the new A-Class will be priced between CLA and C-Class in the Indian market. Therefore, expect a price of around Rs 35 lakh. After the launch, the A-Class sedan will take the likes of the Audi A3. It will also compete with the BMW 1 Series sedan, should the automaker decide to launch an entry-level sedan here.
