August 2024 is shaping up to be a thrilling month for the Indian automotive market, with eight new car launches from major brands including Mahindra, Tata, Citroen, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and Lamborghini.
Key Launches:
Nissan X-Trail:
The first launch of the month is the Nissan X-Trail, debuting on August 1. Nissan India has already started accepting bookings, with deliveries expected to begin soon. This model features a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, generating 160 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, and is anticipated to be priced between ₹40-45 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
Citroen Basalt:
On August 2, Citroen will unveil the Basalt coupe-SUV, based on the C3 Aircross. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and will come with both manual and automatic transmission options. The Basalt aims to be a competitive option in the compact SUV segment, potentially priced lower than its rivals.
Tata Curvv:
Tata Motors will launch the Curvv coupe-SUV on August 7. Positioned between the Nexon and Harrier, the Curvv will be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. It will have to compete with the Citroen Basalt and Hyundai Creta in the compact SUV category.

Tata Curvv EV:
Alongside the Curvv ICE, Tata will introduce the Curvv EV on August 7. This electric variant will feature a 50-60 kWh battery pack, offering a range of over 500 kilometers. The vehicle will come in single- and dual-motor options and will be Tata's most expensive electric vehicle until the Harrier EV is released.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet:
On August 8, Mercedes-Benz will launch the CLE Cabriolet, which replaces the C-class and E-class cabriolets. It will offer various four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, though details for the India-spec model are yet to be confirmed. Pricing is expected to exceed ₹1 crore (ex-showroom).
Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43 Coupe:
Also launching on August 8 is the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe, featuring a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 415 bhp and 500 Nm, with a mild hybrid boost of 12.8 bhp. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. Pricing will start at over ₹1 crore.
Lamborghini Urus SE:
Lamborghini will debut the Urus SE plug-in hybrid (PHEV) on August 9. This high-performance SUV combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor to deliver 789 bhp and 950 Nm. It has an electric-only range of 60 km and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The cost of the Urus SE will exceed that of the existing Urus models.
Mahindra Thar Roxx:
The final launch of the month is the Mahindra Thar Roxx, a five-door version of the popular Thar. The Thar Roxx is anticipated to have the choice between a 2.2-liter diesel engine and a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, along with options for four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.It is anticipated to be priced between ₹15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
