Skoda Vision IN Concept unveiled

The Volkswagen GroupVolkswagen and Skoda, are prepared to make a big hit in the Indian market in the coming time. At the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Media Night, among all the unveils the most important one has been the unveiling of the Skoda Vision IN concept that has made its world premiere in New Delhi. Even though the Vision IN is a product of Skoda, but at the same time, it is of importance to the VW Group as well.

The production-spec model of the Vision IN is going to be the first car to be launched under the VW Group’s India 2.0 project


In fact, it is also the first model that will be built on the company’s new MQB A0 IN platform made specifically for India. The Vision IN is a midsize SUV that will face competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The launch of this car will mark Skoda’s entry into one of the most profitable as well as competitive segments in the Indian market.

"Localisation is the key to our growth and success and by opening the Technology Centre in Pune we have successfully created the conditions for the same. In the localised MQB-A0-IN variant of the MQB, we also have the technical requirements to offer state-of-the-art vehicles. They have completely fulfilled all the latest safety and emission needs for the Indian market. These are in line with the preferences and needs of the customers." Mr GurpratapBoparai, Managing Director of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited said in a statement.

As per the design sketches, it has been hinted that the Skoda Vision IN concept has given us a glimpse of the bold look of the SUV. The Skoda Vision IN’s design is similar to that of the Kamiq that is sold worldwide. But, the Vision IN has a much bolder and an upright nose. It also comes with the trademark chrome-embellished Skoda grille that has been flanked by the split projector headlights and the angular bumper that has large air intakes and a three-slot skid plate. Some of the other notable design features of the car include the plastic cladding all around, the roof rails that look prominent and the large 19-inch alloy wheels befitting a concept.

At the rear end, the Skoda Vision IN has a lot of aspects similar to the Kamiq when it comes to the design. It has crystal-like LED tail-lights at the back. The concept also has an additional light strip along the width of the car and a three-slot skid plate, that has similarity to the front skid plate. As far as the size is conceed, the Skoda Vision IN SUV concept is measuring at 4.26 m in length. This is about the same length as the Hyundai Creta.

When it comes to the interiors of the Skoda Vision IN SUV


There are various features that can now be seen across all the new models of Skoda. The car will get a layered dashboard that is going to gaer a lot of attention. A thin chrome bar that will span along the length of the dash and is connecting the large, chrome-lined vents at each end. The company has also made sure to use orange properly to make the interior of the car look lively especially the parts of the dash, door panels, centre console and the front armrest that have a finishing done in orange.

Some of the features of the Skoda Vision IN include a large, free-standing 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that takes up the centre-stage. There is also the Virtual Cockpit digital instrumentation right next to it.  The car also has a ‘crystalline element’ that has been placed atop the dash. The dash has the design of the traditional Indian art of kalamkari which gives it a cool yet an Indian look.

There is a three-spoke steering wheel, with the buttons for phone controls, voice commands (Skoda named it as a 'digital assistant'), lane assist and cruise control. The seat upholstery has been made of Pinatex. It is made up of waste pineapple leaves and the real leather has been substituted by natural leather as well as recycled plastic fibres.

The car also has a small gear lever for the automatic transmission that has been placed on the compact centre console. The production model of the Skoda Vision IN includes various features such as the automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, USB charging ports at the rear, drive modes, ambient lighting and many others. The company has said that the production-spec Skoda Vision IN SUV will have a long wheelbase measuring 2,671 mm along with enough space for the rear-seat passengers.

The Skoda Vision IN Concept SUV will be using all vegan materials in the interior of the cabin along with recycled plastic fibres.


The Skoda Vision IN will be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces a speed of 150hp and a peak torque of 250Nm. The Power will be sent to the front wheels via the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Skoda has claimed that the concept goes the 0-100kph sprint within 8.7 secs. The SUV will have a top speed of 195kph. The production-spec model of the Vision IN will not be available in a diesel engine option but it has been expected that a CNG variant will be manufactured.

The confirmation for the India launch of the production-spec model of the Skoda Vision IN SUV’s has been made recently. The launch of the car in India will take place between April-June 2021 sometime before Volkswagen will launch its own MQB A0 IN-based Taigun SUV.

By the time it becomes available in the market, the Skoda Vision IN’s list of competitors will include the next-gen Hyundai Creta (Creta will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 on 6th February), the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, the all-new Mahindra XUV500 and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming SUV.

The company has also made an announcement about its plans for 200 sales and service touchpoints in as many as 150 cities in India by the year 2023.
