Mumbai Police mandates use of seat belts for all four-wheeler commuters from 1 November, 2022

  • Wearing of seat belt is mandatory for the driver and passengers.
  • Violators will be fined Rs 1,000

Mumbai Police issued a notice dated October 14, 2022 requiring the use of seat belts for the driver and all passengers in a four-wheel drive vehicle. The rule, which will come into effect from November 1, 2022, will apply to all four-wheelers flying in the city of Mumbai.

According to the press release from the Mumbai Police, cars without seat belts for all passengers will need to install them by November 1, 2022.

An excerpt from the statement reads as follows: “All motorists and all vehicle occupants, no matter who is traveling on Mumbai City Road, are advised that it will be mandatory for drivers and all passengers to wear seat belts while traveling to Mumbai. from 01/11/2022.”
