KTM 250 Adventure vs Royal Enfield Himalayan: Comparison

KTM recently launched the KTM 250 Adventure motorcycle in the Indian market at a price of Rs 2.48 lakh (ex-showroom). It has now become the most affordable motorcycle in the Adventure series of motorcycles. There is no direct competitor to the 250 Adventure on the market, but some of its competitors include the Royal Enfield Himalayan which cost Rs 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom), and the recently updated BMW G 310 GS which required a premium of Rs. 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom). KTM 250 Adventure sits in the middle of both bikes. It has a 250 cc single-cylinder engine that is rated to develop 30 hp of maximum power and 24 Nm of maximum torque and is based on its older brother the KTM 390 Adventure.

On the other hand, the Himalayas use a long-stroke 411 cc single-cylinder engine known to generate an astonishing maximum torque of 32 Nm. The company claims that the Himalayan low torque helps boost rider confidence during technical low-speed tracks. While KTM uses a six-speed gearbox, Himlayan has a 5-speed unit.

On the expensive side, KTM uses a more premium kit that includes WP Apex full-size 43mm forks and a mono-shock at the back. Wheels in 19-inch and 17-inch configurations with alloy wheels and tubeless tires. Himalayan has a 21-inch front wheel paired with a 17-inch rear wheel with spoked wheels and tubular tires.

For braking functions, the KTM uses a 320 mm disc at the front that is larger than a 300 mm Himalayan front disc. At the rear, the Himalayas have a slightly larger 240mm disc plate, while the KTM has a 230mm disc. Both bikes have standard ABS.
