BMW has introduced the new 5 Series LWB in India, with a starting price of 72.90 lakh

The 5 Series is making its debut in India with an elongated wheelbase for the first time in its eighth generation.

BMW 5 series LWB

BMW has introduced the long anticipated latest 5 Series internal combustion vehicle in India. The recently launched 5 Series is being sold for Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and is exclusively offered in the long wheelbase version, a first for India. India is actually the initial market with right-hand drive to receive the extended-wheelbase version of the 5 Series. Currently, the only option available is the fully equipped M-Sport model.

Competing against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB and Audi A6, the new long-wheelbase (LWB) 5 Series is 5,165mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,518mm tall, surpassing the previous model in length, width, and height. The wheelbase of the new 5 Series LWB measures 3,105 mm. Shifting focus to the design, the eighth iteration of the 5 Series features a progressive design style with a broader BMW grille bordered by modern LED headlights, as well as sleeker lines and a more continuous roofline.

The interior of the cabin is filled with various technological features, such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch center touchscreen, four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and an 18-inch sound system. Speakers from Bowers and Wilkins. Buyers have the option to acquire the BMW Interaction Bar, which includes a range of touch-based controls for different functions. This characteristic made its debut on the latest 7 Series model. Additional features include active ventilation for the front seats, a panoramic glass roof, an interior camera with remote viewing through the MyBMW app, and a 360-degree camera.

Regarding the engines, the only option currently for the new 5 is a petrol engine with 530Li specifications. This indicates that the sedan is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine generating 255 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque. A standard feature is an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims that the sedan can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250 km/h.

It is worth noting that the 5 Series SUV is not the initial eighth-generation 5 Series model to arrive in India, as BMW introduced the i5 M60 - the regular SUV for the all-electric version of the new 5 Series in April 2024.
