Piaggio India started production of the highly anticipated Aprilia SXR 160 at its Baramati plant, before launching it a few weeks from now. The all-new scooter for India was revealed at Auto Expo 2020 in February and was scheduled to arrive in the third quarter of the year. However, the launch has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new SXR 160 is a luxury maxi-style scooter built in Italy that promises a comfortable riding experience.
After a long wait, the Aprilia SXR 160 launch details have been finally confirmed. Diego Graffi, the Managing Director and CEO of Piaggio India, said that prices for the Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter will be announced before the end of December 2020, and shipments of the scooter will begin this month. Reservations for the new scooter will start on December 11, 2020.
Aprilia SXR 160 Features
The new Aprilia SXR 160 features a large body that the company calls a "CrossMax" design, with a majestic front apron complete with dual LED headlights that incorporate LED daytime running lights, a tall windshield, and a single seat. The scooter also comes with a triple-layer coating, Aprilia's signature graphics paired with matte black design trims, and dark chrome inserts. The premium scooter rides on 12-inch five-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with a wide tire design. The scooter will come with a digital kit that will have a portable Bluetooth connection as an accessory.
In a hypothetical press conference, Graffi said India has great potential for large scooters in the 200-250cc space and the SXR 160 would be a good way to test these waters. The Aprilia SXR 160 will be the most powerful scooter in its class and will have a maxi-scooter design, but will also have compact dimensions. Graffi also said the SXR 160 can handle missions on the road and will be comfortable on long trips. It will also be loaded with features. In fact, the under-seat cabin of the SXR 160 is said to have room for a full-face helmet and more. Other features of the SXR 160 include full LED lighting, an LCD digital controller, and ABS as well. Piaggio India chief also said that the scooter will have attractive driving dynamics, with good handling and stability at high speeds.
