Tata Punch earns 5 stars for safety in Global NCAP crash test

Tata Punch is Tata Motors' third model after Nexon and Altroz, and India's fourth, to secure Global NCAP's highest safety rating in crash tests.

Tata Punch received five stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection in the latest Global NCAP crash tests.

The Tata Punch, which goes on sale October 18, has been tested to the simplest safety specifications and is equipped with dual airbags, ABS brakes, and ISOFIX stabilizers. Punch is the third model from Tata Motors (after Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz) and the fourth from India to secure the highest Global NCAP safety ratings.

The Punch is the latest product from Tata Motors to have a compact SUV body shape. This new model will be positioned cheaper than the slightly larger Tata Nexon, but probably in line with the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Punch uses the same vehicle platform as the Altroz.

Global NCAP indicated that the Tata Punch could be improved by equipping the model with standard electronic stability control and lateral head protection systems as standard and three-point harnesses in all seating positions.

“It is important that we once again highlight Tata's decision to install both child and stern occupants, demonstrating that this situation offers the best safety option as baby dolls have received good protection,” said Global NCAP.

Alejandro Foras, Secretary-General of the Global NCAP Program, said: “Tata has once again received the highest safety rating for the protection of adults and four stars for children in the category of new and popular models. As protocols evolve to include electronic stability control, side-impact head protection, and pedestrian protection, we encourage Tata to maintain this leadership position. ”

David Ward, Chairman of the Towards Zero Foundation, said: "It is a pleasure to see leading manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra positively commit to the #SaferCarsforIndia agenda. It remains disappointing that not all car manufacturers in the Indian market have such a strong commitment to security improvements. "
