Jeep Renegade plug-in hybrid revealed

Renegade PHEV has a 136-horsepower electric motor installed in the rear, as well as a 180-hp turbocharged gasoline engine, which allows for an electric range of 50 km.

Jeep revealed details of a powerful version of the Renegade SUV (PHEV), which will go on sale in international markets in June 2020.

The PHEV version of the SUV relies heavily on the current Renegade shown outside, and the most significant change is the addition of an electric motor installed on the back of 136 hp, installed on a modified version of the rear tire of the split AWD.

The battery, which would be good for the EV range of up to 50 km at a speed of up to 130 km / h under ideal conditions, has been installed in the central tunnel of the floor stairs and also occupies some space under the rear seat. The fuel tank (also under the rear seat) has been reduced to 39 liters.

Under the hood, the 180 hp turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine now drives the front wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox (instead of a standard 9-speed unit). The engine also acquires a belt-activated generator, which recharges the battery when the vehicle is running braking or tu
ing inertia.

The car can operate in pure EV mode with electrical power being sent to its rear wheels, in pure gasoline mode with transmission to the front wheels and as a gasoline hybrid with a generator assisting the engine. The Total Traction Mode provides a combined power of 240 HP, allowing time from 0 to 100 km / h approximately 7 seconds. It will also be possible to suspend the battery and use it when reaching the city centers at the end of the trip. Interestingly, the weight of this PHEV fuel is only 120 kg of Renegade diesel; Weight plays an important factor when considering the high-speed economy.

The American automaker also promises a significant improvement in off-road capability since the rear electric motor delivers 259 Nm of torque that is controlled very precisely and can be divided between each rear wheel. There will also be a "labeled" Trail version of Renegade that can cross water up to a depth of 60 cm.

Marco Bijozi, head of product marketing at Jeep, says the intention was to create this additional release without compromising the interior space; that no space was lost in the rear compartment, while the boot floor did not need to be raised. The main change was the loss of 15 liters in the trunk so that some electronic control systems could be installed on the trunk wall.

As we previously reported, Jeep will not bring the current version of Forsaken to India. However, the brand is considering bringing the next generation Renegade to our market. In addition, the American off-road brand will introduce a Compass SUV face-lift in mid-2020, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle less than four meters at the end of 2020 (to compete with Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, etc.) and will also attend seven seats Compass based on SUV later, by 2021.
